Opportunity | Kindergarten Staff | Full and Part Time​

We currently have opportunities for both full and part time staff to join our team. We are looking for people who are excited by the opportunity to create a learning environment of exploration and discovery and who understand the importance of cultivating and nourishes children’s holistic development.

Positions: Kindergarten Teacher and Kindergarten Assistant roles 

Appointed by: Board of Trustees 

Reporting to: 

  • The Kindergarten Teacher reports to the Head Teacher

  • The Kindergarten Assistant reports to the Kindergarten Teacher. 

 

The Kindergarten Teacher Role: 

New School Canterbury is looking for a committed Early Years professional with:

  • an accredited Waldorf Kindergarten Teacher Qualification (level 3 and above)

  • experience working within a Waldorf Kindergarten,

  • a proven ability to relate to and inspire children,

  • the capacity to communicate and work well with colleagues and parents.

  • All Kindergarten staff will also have an up-to-date qualification in paediatric first aid PFA (this can be updated in-service).

  • Safeguarding training will be offered and must be completed before starting the role. 

The Kindergarten Teacher will work in partnership with the experienced Kindergarten Teacher who runs our existing Kindergarten. The Kindergarten Team work as part of the whole school team with School Teachers, the School Management Team, Trustees and Administrative staff.

The Kindergarten Teacher must have the ability to plan, deliver and develop a living curriculum of inspiration and growth, progress and attainment for the school’s Kindergarten children. We expect that this position will be of interest to people who have completed their Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood training and professional development and with experience of working within a Waldorf Kindergarten. 

Hours:

 

We are open to applications from people looking for either Full Time or Part Time hours between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday during term time (35 weeks of the year). Plus 2 hours hours a week for meetings. Some evenings or weekend hours may be required. 

Salary: £22000 - £25000 pro rata (depending on experience)

The Kindergarten Assistant role: 

New School Canterbury is looking for a committed Early Years professional with:

  • a minimum Level 3 EYE qualification

  • an interest in Steiner/Waldorf education and / or Pikler/RIE pedagogy 

  • a proven ability to relate to and inspire children,

  • the capacity to communicate and work well with colleagues and parents. 

  • All Kindergarten staff will also have an up-to-date qualification in paediatric first aid PFA (this can be updated in-service).

  • Safeguarding Training must be offered and must be completed before starting the role. 

 

The Kindergarten Assistant will work under the mentorship of an experienced kindergarten teacher. Their role will include promoting the overall welfare of the children,  maintaining  an environment for positive creative play and the celebration of festivals. The afternoon activities take place outdoors. 

 

Kindergarten Assistants work as part of a team with the Kindergarten Teachers, School Teachers, the School Management Team, Trustees and Administrative staff.

 

We expect that this position will be of interest to people undertaking Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood training and professional development, although we are also open to receiving applications from candidates with mainstream Early Years training. 

Hours:

 

Full Time hours between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday during term time (35 weeks of the year). Plus 2 hours hours a week for meetings. Some evenings or weekend hours may be required. 

Part Time (Freelance) hours will fall between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday during term time (35 weeks of the year). All staff will be expected to be able to attend meetings for approximately 2 hours a week after school.  Some additional evenings or weekend hours may be required. 

Salary: £10.50 per hour for a part time freelance role and £14185.50 (FTE £19110 pa) for a full time role (depending on experience, qualifications and responsibilities that would be held within this role).
