Melodie Grose Laite

Trustee

Role: Education Lead - Continued Professional Development for Teachers and supporting parents to better understand Waldorf education.

Melodie trained as a Norland nursery nurse in the late 1980s and has cared for and taught many children in private homes, kindergarten, daycare and school settings since then. Following the birth of her own daughter in 2002 Melodie became interested in alternative forms of parenting and education in particular Waldorf education. Melodie has attended Waldorf education and childcare conferences, trainings and seminars over a period of many years in India, Canada, America, New Zealand and The UK. She graduated as a Waldorf elementary teacher from Sunbridge Institute in New York in 2014.

In 2007 Melodie set up and ran Acaciawood, a Waldorf homeschool initiative in her home in Dubai. Between 2007 and 2020 she taught over 30 children in her homeschool predominantly teaching 4 grades or classes at once in a ‘one room school room’ setting. During this time Melodie developed a Waldorf curriculum based upon Rudolf Steiner’s principles of education that was unique for the one room classroom setting in the desert environment in which her homeschool thrived.

Melodie is passionate about Waldorf education, in particular forging a way ahead allowing Steiner’s principles of education to be the primary focus of how children are taught as well as taking into account student needs and the environments in which they live.
